Pluses are: they are transportable, especially for airline travel. They are great in rivers as you can beat them up without dings. Some of them are really cheap, especially the Sevylor brand. I have paddled these.
Down side... don't cruise super fast, and probably aren't the best for wave surfing, but the Uli guys certainly make it look like they do. If you travel a lot or have limited storage space, it would be a good option... otherwise, I would stick with an epoxy or fiberglass SUP.
I have a Uli SUP. It is a 10' inflatable. Before I got it i had not tried very many boards, but now I have had a chance to test some out - including at today's event at Mercer Island. In comparison - my board is really agile, and very soft on the feet. I had thought it would be alot slower than a hard board, but in comparison it doesn't seem to be - except comparing to boards much longer. The only weakness I have noticed is that it doesn't track as well as the boards I have tried - I think it is because it has 3 much shorter fins. The plusses are that it is much softer on the feet - nice over a long distance, and if you fall on it - it doesn't hurt. Feel free to email me if you want more info. The Uli folks have been great to deal with. I heard that Surftech is coming out with an inflatable later this year.
