Diana,
Welcome to the forum and standup paddle surfing. I travel to both islands regularly and can help get you hooked up on both islands. On Maui, contact Ralf at Second Wind. http://secondwindmaui.com/. He is the owner. Let him know that you know me, Kevin "V" from N.C. and he will give you a great price. He is by far the least expensive on the island even without any discounts. You can rent by the day or week. Weekly rentals are generally cheaper. His store is close to the airport and it is very convenient to pick up your boards right after you land and get your rental car. They are open 7 days a week from 9am - 6pm. I would recommend you bring your own paddles. Ralf at least has decent ones but most of the time you rent boards they give you a 5 lb adjustable paddle. It will turn your paddle into a real workout. Tip for taking your paddle with you. If you don't have a box for your paddle, visit the nearest shop in your area that sells SUP gear and ask for one from there recent shipments. They are most likely going to recycle them anyway. When the airline asks you what is in the box, tell them fishing equipment. They charge you by what the item is not the weight or length of the box. Fishing equipment usually runs $25. If you tell them surf gear they will charge you as much as $175 for the same box. Delta is the worst about gouging you on this. If you tell me what kind of paddling conditions you are looking for and what area of the island you will be staying I can help point you toward places you may want paddle. The condition vary greatly around the island. Same for Kaui. On Kaui I usually get my boards from Kaama'aina Surf and Sport. http://www.ksshawaii.com/. Miguel is the owner. Again, let him know you know me and he will take care of you. They are located in Lihue by the Marriott. If you happen to be staying on the North Store there are a couple of places up there that would be more convenient but I don't have any of that info with me at the time. If you need it, let me know and I will try and get that for you. I hope this is a start point for you. If I can help you in any other way, let me know. I am happy to help. You are going to have a great time.
