I never took a lesson or hired a guide. Just went with a buddy who was interested and we figured it out. In fact, you will be surprised how quick it is to become comfortable on calm waters. If you end up renting something in the Seattle area, feel…

do you have to take a lesson before renting? and this may be silly, but can you rent a guide to go along...? does that make sense?

Oh my, I think I just sent a comment to myself instead of leaving a comment to you in your box...this, in addition to not having any experience...is what is going to get me 86'd out of SUP. Please go to my inbox, and read my comment, I am too…

You didn't mention if you actually have night paddled...or even tried this activity? (excuse me...but I'm new to the jargon and semantics...so I obviously make up my own phrases). And wooh, you also didn't read the…

I actually saw an add on youtube from them yesterday. As long as the rent boards in good shape. I suggest to rent as many different ones to get a feel for different lengths and widths etc..... Check prices as well. You shouldn't pay more than…

Night paddleing is definatley possible. If your at the beach make sure to count your sets so you can get out past the break easier inbetween waves. Also make sure to wear a PDF and a leash. Have you EVER gone SUPing? What kind of water conditions…

Perseid meteor shower/paddle surf....sound fun?

This is an activity that I wish I could do...but 1st I have to learn how to paddle surf. :( Not even sure if it's possible? Can you surf in the dark? You need to be away from the city lights...around 2 am...is the best time to view it. I hope someone experienced does this and tell me all about it! (Tip: if you can find a lake by a mountain, that's ideal).

I'm not sure of one in Kirkland. I know there is a place called Motion Board sports in Lake Forest Park (North Seattle). Cheka Looka in Fremont does (I spoke with them earlier this week). Snowboard Connection in Seattle across the street from…

Oh, I hope you have good insight to the places to go in WA. I heard about a place in Kirkland...(I think they do rentals) does that sound familiar? thanks.

The biggest initial investment is the board however. I recommend renting at least a couple different boards to find what works well for you. I'm not too sure about Olympia, but Seattle has about four or five places that rent boards and paddles…

Thanks for your time in responding. I'm sure there's an easy way to see the whole answer, but I only got to: "...spend more an..." that's it. So I'm a little confused. My objective is to just recreationally paddle…

You should start by asking yourself where you want to go with the board and what your main use is going to be (surf, flatwater, racing...) From there you can start targeting brands and boards. Paddles are tricky tricky. Its better to spend more and…

One step below beginner...what should be my 1st question?

This is my first blog attempt...I've read through some of the others, and I must say, I'm way below on the learning ladder. Is anyone an instructor? Or have recommendations on where to start? I saw this: have the board, need the paddle. I'm not even at that step. Please emphathize, and give me a lead. Thanks.

Are there any group or individual classes? I'm very interested, but not sure how to get my feet wet.

Check prices as well. You shouldn't pay more than $40-50 for a day or so. Snowboard Connection only charged me 40 for the weekend a two weeks ago.

If you end up renting something in the Seattle area, feel free to let me know. I wouldn't mind giving some tips on getting started. Again, it really is pretty basic to learn on flat water. I also checked out "perfect wave" in Kirkland. It was really cool and prices for boards and accessories are on par for internet prices. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you if you're up in the area and rent. I would recommend a board shop right on Lake Union. I can't remember the name at this point.
